Phagocytosis: Coupling of Mitochondrial Uncoupling and Engulfment
Clearance of apoptotic cells by phagocytes avoids triggering an inflammatory response. A new study reveals that phagocytes dissipate their mitochondrial proton electrochemical gradient to allow for the ingestion of more apoptotic corpses. Mitochondria are therefore involved in all aspects of apoptosis, from its activation through to the phagocytosis of dead cells.
متن کاملInside Mesons: Coupling Constants and Form Factors
In this work the dressed quark propagators and approximation schemes are guided by the Dyson-Schwinger equation (DSE) approach to non-perturbative QCD modeling of hadron physics. This covariant QCD phenomenology has proved to be quite efficient for low-mass mesons and their form factors. To expedite investigations we make use of a convenient parameterization of confining solutions of quark DSEs...

The inter-group entrainment study by Lucas, Clayton, and Leante (2011) is an interesting research report that advances studies in both empirical ethnomusicology and entrainment research in several ways, and provides an important addition to the much needed empirical case studies on musical entrainment. I submit that the authors’ analysis of an instant of resistance to entrainment is a key demon...
متن کاملHigh-energy adhering junctional complexes or with mitochondrial coupling.
A variety of adhering junction is found in the ependyma of the domestic cat with a coupling of mitochondria. These are symmetrically situated (in mirror form) at both sides of the intercellular cleft, which always maintain the same separating distance, thereby leaving a limiting cellular space of a constant amplitude. The hypothesis is put forward that the energy (ATP), provided by the mitochon...
متن کاملChaperone-mediated coupling of endoplasmic reticulum and mitochondrial Ca2+ channels
The voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) of the outer mitochondrial membrane mediates metabolic flow, Ca(2+), and cell death signaling between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondrial networks. We demonstrate that VDAC1 is physically linked to the endoplasmic reticulum Ca(2+)-release channel inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor (IP(3)R) through the molecular chaperone glucose-regulat...
